M' s story

Long ago, in the Egyptian hieroglyph  the letter M meant "water".
It looks like this: .

Centuries later it evolved.

Proto-sinaitic wrote it differently.

Phoenician...
it started to look like a proper M!

Paleo-hebrew was a little more abstract than the Phoenicians more like
a hand-script: 

The before last evolution, Aramaic.

This has gone off track the letter M doesn't look like one now:

Let's go through the history of the letter S.

First the Acient Egyptians invented the letter S.

Our S, originally was the following symbol:

Back in time S meant sun.

After many years the Proto-Sinaitic people changed the symbol into this:

The letter S eventually evolutioned into our W in now a days by the Phoenicians:

   The Paleo-Hebrew slightly did anything different, they just made the letter more abstract and thick:

The Aramics made it completely different:

 

The Greeks transformed it into this:

And that was the last evolution before our Modern European letter S:

The letter B

The letter B was nothing like the one we use today.


The Egyptians invented the letter B like this:

They write the letter B "Bet". "Bet" meant "house".

The first people to write a simple alphabet wrote it like this:

The Phoenician changed the letter B to be like this:


The Greeks wrote the letter B like this:


The Etruscans wrote it like this:

The Romans wrote it like this:

The Roman B is similar to ours.
There was one more change, the little b.

This was introduced in Ireland much later on.
