Rukmini Devi Arundale was born in Madras in 1904. She was a theosophist and worked with Annie Besant.
She is the founder of the dance form Kalakshetra.
Before that dance was only performed by poor people and was looked down on. She made dance popular for everyone.
Rukmini Devi Arundale elevated dance to be very graceful and divine.
She also recived the Padma Bhushan which is an award given to people who have done something great for their country.
