Symbols

After gathering lots of signs and symbols together, it was time to think more about them.

First of all we thought of definitions:

A symbol is a picture that means something.
Maryam

A symbol is something you see and you straight away know what it means.
Beatriz

It helps you or warns you.
Ines and Tibo

It directs you.
Orla

A symbol represents something.
Noah

We looked at how a symbol can represent a thing or a more abstract idea.
We looked at how the Egyptians wrote with symbols representing things and ideas.
And we looked at how the inventors of the alphabet took Egyptian symbols and made them represent sounds. Here's the slideshow we talked about:
